In short we can say this game has become pretty successful over the years. Each version of the game appears to hit new player records. It has been a while since Bloons Tower Defense 4 was launched by the game development company Ninja Kiwi. True fans are still waiting for the fifth version to appear.

Ninja Kiwi
The company behind the successful game Bloons Tower Defense 4 is called Ninja Kiwi, which is a good name if you know the background of the home country New Zealand. The Kiwi is the national symbol for the country, which is in fact a small bird that inhabits the island. Also inhabitants from New Zealand are referred to with the nickname 'Kiwi'. Ok, just about enough with all these facts and back to the company responsible for this great game based in Auckland. Ninja Kiwi itself is a rather young company, which started out in 2006. Their primary focus was puzzle games, which is rather far away from the tower defense game Bloons Tower Defense 4. The first game series I played did in fact have the puzzle element. When you know Bloons Tower Defense, I am sure you also have learnt about the game Bloons. This puzzler contained multiple different levels with groups of balloons you have to pop by throwing darts at them. The main character in the game is a monkey, which you need to operate with the mouse.

The target of the game is to pop a certain amount of 'bloons' with the darts you get at the beginning of the level. Each dart has to be given the right angle and amount of speed to hit as many bloons you can every throw. When you don't make the percentage target, you have to start the level over again. Quite quickly after the launch this game became quite popular amongst fans. The smart thing of Ninja Kiwi was to involve all of the fans in building future versions of the game. These games were the so called 'Bloons Player Packs', which consisted of player built levels of bloonsworld.com. Each player pack release consisted of 50 of the best player generated levels. Next to that the company of course kept releasing their own versions of the game.

Finally we get to the most important point of this article, the road to the successful game Bloons Tower Defense 4.The history started out in 2007 with the release of the first Bloons Tower Defense game. Instead of starring in the puzzle variant Bloons, the monkey character also appeared back in this game. This time the monkey had quite a different mission, with stopping the advancing bloons from reaching the end of the track. In his strongest form, the Super Monkey, this was a much easier task! The formula resulted in the first successful release of the game, which was quickly followed up by the release of Bloons Tower Defense 2 in the same year. The actual game genre of Bloons Tower Defense can already be found in the game title: tower defense.

Some game series quickly die out, but the series resulting in Bloons Tower Defense 4 actually proved the opposite. Each new released version had better graphics, music, new opponents, new exciting tracks and of course better weapons to fight these new opponents. More players around the world started to discover the game and decided to give it a try, so became hooked trying to beat every available difficulty level inside the game. After the second release of Bloons Tower Defense we again had to wait about a year before Bloons Tower Defense 3 hit the online shelves in 2008.

This game brought new action: instead of two tower upgrades you are now able to upgrade 4 times. Also an important new weapon the monkey beacon was added, which provided extra strength to all surrounding towers. The game needed these extra power-ups and tower quite hard to stop the brand new enemy M.O.A.B (Mother Of All Bloons).

Before Bloons Tower Defense 4 even saw the light we also saw a lot of people starting to share all kinds of cheats and walkthroughs on the internet. From simple articles to all kinds of video tutorials popped up on Youtube and around the web. The most famous cheat can be called the 'money cheat', resulting in unlimited money for the player with big tower construction ambitions. The program used to activate the cheats is called Cheat Engine, which you can download for free on the web. You have probably also seen the video tutorial above the game.

Yeah, what is actually still left to tell about this great game (and probably the reason why you are here)? The first of the Bloons Tower Defense series was released back in October 2009. Instead of using the good old money cheats, the player could now also play the sandbox mode. Here you can build as much towers as you want and are able to control the amount of enemies coming into the screen by just clicking them. Another new element was the Apopalypse Mode, in which the bloons just kept coming into the screen. The game also brought in some new player elements: the ability to level yourself, play for the track highscore and unlock achievements.

The game itself also introduced several new tower types and new enemies, such as the camo bloons, which could only be detected after certain tower upgrades. Ninja Kiwi even managed to package several M.O.A.B's inside an ever stronger form: B.F.B (Brutal Floating Behemoth). To help the player grabbing extra cash in Bloons Tower Defense 4, the banana farm was introduced. There is also a money cheat available that needs the banana farm. Because players had to wait very long for Bloons Tower Defense 5, Ninja Kiwi decided to release Bloons Tower Defense 4 Expansion for the loyal fans back in 2010. As for now we are still waiting for the fifth version to be released soon. Personally I can't wait until this new game is released!
